Dr. James Malayter

Although Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute mourns the passing of Dr. James Malayter, we also want to take this time to remember his many contributions to our practice.

Initially joining LBJI in 1978, Dr. Malayter became President of the group in 1989 and served in that capacity for 17 years.

Dr. Malayter was described as a visionary in many ways. He was a proponent of the practice becoming a regional provider rather than a single office in Valparaiso, which spurred the expansion of the group throughout Porter County, and eventually into LaPorte and Lake Counties. He saw the importance of bringing on subspecialists to serve the region, which led to the addition of spine, hand, sports medicine, and pain management. Clinical quality and innovation were critical to him as he was among the pioneers in this area to adopt arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques.

We are grateful for his dedication to LBJI and the leadership he provided to the practice for so many years. Our practice is where it is largely because of his foresight and willingness to move us forward. Along with the thousands of patients whose lives he improved; we simply want to say “Thank You”.
