About Dwight S. Tyndall | M.D.

Dwight S. Tyndall, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in the treatment of back, neck, and spine conditions. He has been practicing in the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana area for more than 20 years and joined Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute as a partner in 2021.

Dr. Tyndall is known for his expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, outpatient spine surgery, fusion-less spine surgery, and complex revision spine surgery. He is an advocate for outpatient spine surgery techniques, which can help reduce surgical pain, support faster recovery, and improve overall patient experience. Although he is recognized for his advanced surgical skills, Dr. Tyndall strongly believes nonsurgical treatment options should be explored before surgery is recommended.

Areas of Expertise Include:

  • Lumbar spinal stenosis
  • Cervical spinal stenosis
  • Disc herniation
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Scoliosis and spinal deformity
  • Sacroiliac joint disorders
  • Cervical and lumbar radiculopathy
  • Sciatica
  • Minimally invasive spine surgery
  • Fusion-less spine surgery
  • Disc replacement
  • Complex revision spine surgery
  • Work-related spine injuries
  • Nonsurgical spine care

Dr. Tyndall earned his bachelor’s degree from The City University of New York School of Medicine before receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree from New York University Grossman School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery internship at NYU Langone Medical Center, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at Stanford Medical Center. He then completed fellowship training in spine surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

Dr. Tyndall is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, and Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Tyndall is actively involved in spine education, innovation, and research. He serves as clinical faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine and is on the editorial board of SpineUniverse.com. He has also worked with spinal implant companies on the design and development of new spine surgery techniques, equipment, and implants.

Dr. Tyndall sees patients at Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute’s Crown Point and Schererville locations.
