Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute Expands Sports Medicine Care With Brand-New Facility

Area athletes throughout northwest Indiana stand to gain greater safety and performance this year with the launch of Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute’s dedicated sports medicine facility, the Sports Rehabilitation and Health Enhancement Center. An expansion of the sports medicine care provided at the practice’s Portage location at 3691 Willowcreek Road, the new facility offers injury treatment, return-to-play care, sports-specific conditioning programs and more to keep athletes of all levels in the game. Athletes, parents and coaches seeking comprehensive sports rehabilitation care and performance enhancement training are encouraged to call (219) 921-1444.

Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute’s Sports Rehabilitation and Health Enhancement Center will provide student-athletes and weekend warriors the opportunity to receive high-level specialized care with an emphasis on injury prevention and conditioning. In addition to addressing pre-operative care to facilitate improved outcomes following surgery, the facility and staff will provide the bridge between acute injury sports rehabilitation with a transition to return to play safely and a reduced risk of re-injury. The center will also offer conditioning training, resources and equipment to help athletes enhance their performance.

"At Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute, we are dedicated to being the primary sports medicine provider in the region," says fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon Anthony C. Levenda, M.D. "That’s why we’re proud to offer a comprehensive spectrum of care to the student or weekend athlete, from injury prevention to injury resolution."

The state-of-the-art, 5,500-square-foot facility offers:

  • Expertly trained staff that includes fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeons, a board-certified sports physical therapist, a clinical psychologist, certified athletic trainers, a master’s level exercise physiologist and others.
  • Access to the latest equipment, including cardiovascular equipment, weight racks, VertiMax speed and vertical jump training, TRUE stretch flexibility training, Keiser Infinity Series cable fitness, a track and turf field, etc.
  • A variety of programs, including sports physical therapy, return to play, medical fitness consulting, individual training, group and/or team training and gait/running analysis.

"All of our providers and staff at the Sports Rehabilitation and Health Enhancement Center are community-based and care about the health of the community we practice in," Dr. Levenda says. "We believe in working together with active individuals, as well as with the student-athlete and their parents, as a cohesive team, striving to provide the best care, and most importantly, the safest and highest level of clinical outcomes."
