Tim N, Hobart
Tim’s experience with Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute began in 2002 when two herniated disks in his back became too painful to ignore. “I opened the yellow pages and made an appointment,” he recalls.
Although he’s just 51, years of working construction in area steel mills have damaged not only his back but his joints as well. Dr. Paul Gruszka has performed successful surgeries on both of his arms to repair injured tendons. Tim also credits LBJI’s support staff and physical therapy staff for getting his upper body repaired.
Exercising has helped his back problems enough that surgery may not be necessary, but Tim is looking forward to having both knees replaced within several months. “I’ve had several scopes and have discussed the options with Dr. Gruszka. There’s basically no cartilage left in either knee. This usually doesn’t happen to people my age but the concrete work (at the mills) has really taken a toll on my body. Replacing my knee joints will take care of the pain. I’ll be able to join a health club walk and swim to strengthen my back.”
He can’t imagine himself going anywhere else for joint care. “My wife and I talk about moving to Wisconsin when we retire, but I’d still come back to Lakeshore. Dr. Gruszka is the best doctor in the world. I felt comfortable with him from my first appointment and I trust his judgment completely.”
“And,” he added, “He’s a White Sox fan.”
