patient resources :: success stories :: Ester M.

ester m., Valparaiso

For more than a year, Esther did her best to cope with increasing hip pain brought on by arthritis. She had resigned herself to using a cane when a friend of a friend told her about the new hip replacement procedure being performed by Dr. Michael Leland at Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute.

“I asked my internist for a referral. After looking at my x-rays and examining me, Dr. Leland explained my options. I agreed to have the surgery. I liked him right away; he’s always been polite and honest. He told me my surgery would start at 8:30 a.m. and I would be on my feet at 8:30 p.m. I was skeptical but he was right.”

Ester, age 73, recuperated at Porter Hospital’s rehab center where she underwent a rigorous physical therapy routine. “I usually did my exercises three times a day.” After 10 days she went home and continued rehab at LBJI’s Chesterton and Portage locations. After just one month, she reports that her hip is pain-free.

She’s impressed with Jill, Dr. Leland’s staff nurse. “I’ve called Jill several times to ask about my medications. She’s very helpful and I don’t have to wait to get an answer. I’d recommend Dr. Leland and Lakeshore Bone & Joint to anyone. I brag about the care I received there to anyone who will listen.”
