Pain Management

Chronic pain is debilitating and affects one’s ability to enjoy life; our pain management specialists help you take back your life.

Our Board-certified pain management physicians specialize in caring for patients suffering from acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders. Through the use of advanced, nonsurgical treatment methods, our team provides an individualized approach to help reduce your pain, weakness, and loss of function, while restoring your strength and mobility. The goal of each pain management specialist is to alleviate your pain and discomfort so that you can participate in your life again.

Whether you are experiencing acute pain brought on by surgery or illness, or chronic pain brought on by arthritis, the Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute physicians will provide the highest level of care and compassion for you.

Common Conditions Treated

  • Acute and Sub-Acute Back and Neck Pain
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
  • Post Herpectic Neuralgia
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Nerve Root Injuries
  • Sciatica
  • Post Laminectomy Syndrome
  • Radiculopathy (Cervical & Lumbar)

Pain Management Treatment Options

  • Epidural steroid injections – a non-surgical treatment for low back and neck pain; medication is injected near the painful area of the spine
  • Facet joint injections – a non-surgical treatment to relieve pain and inflammation in the facet joints (vertebrae connectors); medication is injected into the surrounding tissue of the facet joint
  • Facet radiofrequency (rhizotomy) – heat is used to create a lesion on the affected nerve; the impairment of a nerve’s ability to transmit pain signals results in pain not being felt
  • Nerve blocks – medication is injected into the area around a spinal nerve to identify the source of pain
  • Peripheral joint injections – medication is injected into the elbow, hip, knee, and shoulder joints to relieve suspected arthritis, bursitis, or tendonitis pain
  • Sacroiliac joint injections – injections to reduce inflammation causing buttock, hip joint, groin, or thigh pain
  • Spinal cord stimulator – the implantation of a small wire under the skin to relieve chronic back pain; low-level electrical impulses to the spinal cord or specific nerves block pain signals from reaching the brain
  • Trigger point injections – most commonly, back, neck, and shoulders are injected to treat small areas of muscles sensitive to touch and pressure; these trigger points can irritate nearby nerves, causing pain to radiate to other areas
