LBJI :: About LBJI
Continuing a legacy of orthopedic excellence
The origins of Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute begin more than 50 years ago when Dr. Albin Jahns opened a practice in Gary, Indiana. Drs. Olson and Alvarez later joined him; the three soon moved to larger space in Merrillville. In 1975, the practice founded the Valparaiso Orthopedic Clinic on the north side of Valparaiso.
As the practice continued to grow, the doctors again expanded their facility. In 1990, with three more orthopedic specialists, they undertook a major expansion of their Valparaiso offices. In 1999, they articulated a strategic vision of creating a comprehensive orthopedic bone and joint center. The partner physicians made a commitment to create a complete orthopedics care center that would better serve Northwest Indiana patients' needs under one roof.
In 2003, ground was broken in Chesterton’s Coffee Creek Center with completion of the two-story, 35,000 sq. ft building in May of 2004. Since then, we’ve opened additional locations to better serve our patients.
Our founders were all from the Gary region and most of the current partners are from Northwest Indiana and Chicago. LBJI employs more than 100 healthcare and support staff. Contact us to learn more.
